As this nation’s largest public urban university, the City University of New York (CUNY) plays a significant role in our sustainable future and in helping the government to meet its energy and Greenhouse Gas (GHG) reduction targets. City, State and Federal policies have set a multitude of sustainability goals that require the adoption of renewable energy, energy efficiency practices, innovations in clean technology and behavioral changes. Economic development opportunities and a vibrant job market for graduates in related fields are dependent on mainstream acceptance of these changes and a seamless transition from existing infrastructures to the new. With a population larger than most cities, CUNY is leading this transformational change on its campuses, and in NYC, through the work of Sustainable CUNY.

Sustainable CUNY is an integral program of the Office of Sustainability and Energy Conservation in the University’s Department of Facilities Planning, Construction and Management.
